Nikos Oikonomopoulos Closes Australian Tour With Melbourne Concert

Greek singer Nikos Oikonomopoulos closed his Australian tour on Monday 2 November, when the Oikonomopoulos Melbourne concert at Festival Hall in West Melbourne ended a three-city run.

The show marked the final night of his 20 Year Anniversary Tour of Australia, which Kinisi at Trak presented in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne. As the title suggests, the tour celebrated two decades since the singer began his career.

During the night, Oikonomopoulos performed with his full band from Greece, according to the Festival Hall event page. Doors opened at 7:30pm, and then the concert started at 8:30pm.

Final Oikonomopoulos Melbourne concert

The tour first opened on Friday 30 October at Hindley St Music Hall in Adelaide. After that, it moved to Sydney Lyric on Saturday 31 October, before the Oikonomopoulos Melbourne concert closed it two nights later.

During the Sydney show, Archbishop Makarios of Australia attended and met the singer, as Greek City Times reported. At the same time, the Archbishop congratulated him on two decades in Greek music and wished him well for his remaining Australian dates.

According to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, the Archbishop highlighted the role of visiting Greek artists, because they help keep the diaspora connected with Greece, particularly younger Greek Australians.

Two decades in Greek music

Born in Patras in 1984, the laiko singer first rose to prominence after winning the television talent show Dream Show in 2006. Since then, he has become one of the best-known voices in contemporary Greek music.

His catalogue includes songs such as “Mono Ex Epafis”, “Gia Kapoio Logo” and “Skase Ena Fili”. In recent years, the Dream Show winner has taken his full-band shows to venues such as London’s Royal Albert Hall and New York’s Barclays Center.

In addition, Kinisi at Trak is linked to Trak Lounge Bar in Toorak, which hosts weekly Greek nights. Finally, the Oikonomopoulos Melbourne concert completed the promoter’s three-city run for the singer.
