Greek singer Nikos Oikonomopoulos has been left stunned by allegations of fraud surrounding an organisation he believed was collecting donations to support children with serious illnesses, after he contributed €13,000 to help a young cancer patient.
The revelations emerged as the popular singer completed his Australian tour, performing his final show in Melbourne last night after bringing his anniversary tour to audiences across Australia.
Oikonomopoulos had been in Australia when television presenter Maria Antona contacted him about the allegations. Speaking on MEGA’s Mega Non Stop programme on Sunday, November 1, Antona revealed the singer’s reaction.
“I am in shock. I can’t believe this is a scam,” he reportedly told her.
