Hellenic Week 2026 in Canberra celebrates Greek culture, Ohi Day and the visit of the Greek Presidential Guard, the Evzones.

The Evzones will participate in commemorative and community events across the capital, including a Divine Liturgy at St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Kingston, a visit to Australian Parliament House, and a wreath laying ceremony at the Australian War Memorial.

The day will culminate with the Evzones marching into the Hellenic Club of Canberra, followed by a special Guard of Honour. The program offers the Greek Australian community and the wider public a rare opportunity to witness one of Greece’s most recognisable symbols of national identity and tradition.

Greek Film Festival Celebrates Greek Cinema

Hellenic Week will also showcase Greek cinema through special screenings at Palace Cinemas in Canberra as part of the 2026 Greek Film Festival.

The opening night on Thursday, October 29, features Best Friends Forever, a contemporary Greek comedy exploring friendship and the complications that arise when people try to help those around them.

On Saturday, October 31, audiences can watch Kapodistrias, a historical epic by acclaimed Greek filmmaker Yannis Smaragdis about Ioannis Kapodistrias, one of the defining figures in modern Greek history.

The festival program concludes on Sunday, November 1, with Saint Paisios, a film depicting the early life of the revered Orthodox Christian figure and his family’s journey from Cappadocia to Greece.

Together, the screenings celebrate Greek storytelling, history, faith and contemporary culture as part of the inaugural Hellenic Week.
