SYDNEY, October 2026 — The Rose Bay BBQ 2026 returns to St George Greek Orthodox Church on Saturday 7 November. Organisers are inviting fathers, children, grandfathers and friends to the parish’s annual Fathers, Kids and Mates BBQ.
The lunch runs from 12 noon to 5 pm at 90-92 Newcastle Street, Rose Bay. It also celebrates St George the Minor. This year, funds raised will help restore the Holy Chapel of St John the Theologian at Prevelly, Western Australia.
Greek City Times previewed the 2025 event, which raised funds for the Battle of 42nd Street Memorial in Chania, Crete. Similarly, the Rose Bay BBQ 2026 links a Sydney parish lunch with Australia’s wartime history in Greece.

Rose Bay BBQ 2026 menu and music
The Rose Bay BBQ 2026 menu centres on charcoal Greek cooking, with whole animals roasted on the spit. The menu also includes kontosouvlia, grilled octopus, and pitas. Drinks include soft drinks, draught boutique beers, Greek wines and big-bottle premium Australian wines. The drinks list also includes ouzo, tsikoudia and tsipouro.
After lunch, Dr Emmanuel Karantanis and the Koutouki Restaurant band will play music for dancing. Organisers describe the day as “an intergenerational community event”. They say guests have traveled from all over Australia in past years.
To promote the Rose Bay BBQ 2026, they have also turned to Greek mythology. Organisers urge guests to “Feast like Achilles and Hector drink like Dionysus” on the day.

Previously, the 2024 St George the Minor lunch drew nearly 350 people and raised nearly $50,000. Greek City Times reported those results after the event. That year, an auction of marble St George icons raised nearly $20,000. Organisers also pledged $5,000 to a new veterans’ legal service run by the North Bondi RSL Sub-Branch.
At the time, organiser Nick Andriotakis said, “We are committed to making this an unforgettable event year after year.”
Funds for the Prevelly chapel
Proceeds from the Rose Bay BBQ 2026 will support ongoing repairs and restoration of the Prevelly chapel. Specifically, its full name is the Holy Chapel of St John the Theologian. The chapel stands in Western Australia, more than 3,000 kilometers from Sydney.
According to organisers, Anzac Geoff Edwards fought in Crete during the Second World War. He dedicated the Prevelly chapel to the people of Crete. Edwards also honoured the Cretan monastery of the same name. During the war, that monastery saved him and hundreds of Australian and Commonwealth soldiers.
He also supplied the land, while former Australian and British servicemen supported the building. Later, he donated the land and church to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese.
The Australian War Memorial’s Places of Pride register lists the Prevelly chapel as a Second World War memorial. It also gives a dedication date of 4 June 1979 and names Ioannis John Georgiou as the designer. Greek City Times has also profiled Edwards and his ties to Preveli in Crete.

A war memorial church in Sydney’s east
Like the Prevelly chapel, the host parish has its own wartime history. The NSW War Memorials Register records the church’s dedication as a war memorial on 24 November 1962. The then Governor of New South Wales, Lieutenant General Sir Eric Woodward, unveiled the plaque that day.
In particular, its plaque honours Australian soldiers of Greek origin who died in the two world wars. It also remembers Australian servicemen who died in Greece during the Second World War.
Because of that history, organisers said the Rose Bay BBQ 2026 cause fits the parish’s own purpose.
“This support is in line with the aims and objectives of St George Greek Orthodox Church Rose Bay, an NSW State registered War Memorial commemorating Australians in WW2 that served in Greece and Australians of Greek Heritage that served Australia.”
