Greek actor Kostas Apostolakis has expressed his happiness that popular singer Nikos Oikonomopoulos openly speaks about his Christian faith, saying his public declaration of belief in Jesus Christ reflects the work of the Holy Spirit.

Apostolakis made the comments while discussing the recent appearance of Archbishop Makarios of Australia at Oikonomopoulos’ concert in Australia.
Speaking to the Greek television programme Hamogela kai Pali on Tuesday, November 3, the actor described the meeting between the Archbishop and the singer as a beautiful moment.
He also rejected the idea that becoming closer to the Church makes a person’s life restrictive or unhappy.
“People sometimes believe that if you go to church, your life suddenly becomes dark overnight. No, your life becomes bright. It was dark before, and you simply did not realise it,” Apostolakis said.
He then praised Oikonomopoulos for speaking openly about his beliefs.
“I am happy that Nikos Oikonomopoulos has publicly expressed, declared and confessed Jesus Christ. You cannot confess something like that unless it comes from the Holy Spirit,” he said.
Apostolakis added that he was pleased Archbishop Makarios attended the concert, saying Oikonomopoulos could continue his professional life while remaining committed to his faith.
“The Gospel says that you should continue with the work you were doing before, provided it is honest,” the actor said.
Oikonomopoulos speaks openly about his faith
Oikonomopoulos has repeatedly spoken publicly about his relationship with Christianity and the importance of Jesus Christ in his life.
In an interview with journalist Giorgos Liagas on ANT1’s To Proino on December 1, 2025, the singer described himself as completely surrendered to Christ.
“I am literally surrendered to Christ. Surrendered! Nothing else matters to me except gaining eternal life,” he said.
The singer explained that his faith motivates him to become a better person and help people facing difficulties.
“I want to become a better person. I want to help people who are going through problems, as much as I can. I want to become a better person so I can be where I want to go. I do not know if I deserve it, but I want to get there. I believe in it,” he said.
He also spoke emotionally about his love for Christ, describing his faith as a way of life rather than something he simply discusses in public.
“I love Christ very much. I confess it constantly. It is a way of life for me,” he said.
Singer says prayer is part of his everyday life
During the interview, Oikonomopoulos revealed that he prays throughout the day and reads the Salutations to the Virgin Mary every night before going to sleep.
“I enjoy saying the Salutations to the Virgin Mary every night before I go to sleep. I read them every night, and they bring me great joy,” he explained.
He said he maintains the practice even after late performances or when he is exhausted.
The singer also encouraged people not to lose their faith, stressing that belief cannot be forced upon anyone.
“I have never tried to convince anyone that they must believe in Christ. Why? There is no why. You have to feel it yourself. I feel it, and I want to share it. Never lose your faith,” he said.
Oikonomopoulos also addressed criticism over his willingness to discuss religion publicly, insisting that he does not seek recognition or praise for his beliefs.
“I do not want to sell myself as a good person,” he said.
His comments have made him one of the most outspoken figures in Greek popular music when it comes to publicly discussing his Orthodox Christian faith.
