Aglaya Papadokokolakis was First Officer on Jetstar flight JQ362 to the Gold Coast, which departed shortly before 11.30am on Sunday as the first commercial passenger flight from Western Sydney International Airport (Nancy-Bird Walton).

The Blacktown-raised Greek Australian described the moment as “such an honour.” The sold-out flight marked the airport’s opening—the first major new passenger airport in Australia in more than 50 years.

Located at Badgerys Creek, the 24-hour airport is designed for around 10 million passengers initially, with capacity potentially rising to 82 million by the 2060s.
The inaugural flight departed late.
